Parchment Paper (cut into a circle that will fit into the pot)
Ingredients
1Pear
1 1/4cupsWater
1/3cupWhite Sugar
1Cinnamon Stick
1 Star Anise
1 - 1" stripOrange Peel
2-3Black Peppercorns
Instructions
Peel and core the pear then cut each half into four wedges and set aside.
Bring the remaining ingredients to a simmer until the sugar has dissolved.
Carefully add the wedges of pear to the poaching liquid, nestling them in so they are all fully submerged, cover with the parchment circle. Continue to cook until the pear is tender when pierced, about 10-20 minutes.*The ripeness and size of the pear will greatly impact the cooking time so keep a keen eye!
Notes
If you don't plan on serving the pear right away store the slices submerged in their poaching liquid in the fridge. The poaching liquid is delicious and can be strained and used to soak a cake, topped with soda or in your next cocktail!
